Opening the heart

Keeping with the theme of Valentine’s Day (Happy Belated heart day) we worked this past week on opening the heart.
We reviewed the Heart Chakra (Anahata) the energy center that surrounds the physical heart.  The mantra or ‘bij sound’ for the heart center is “Yam” (pronounced ‘yum’) and silently chanted with movement.
It’s said the front of the heart is for giving, the back of the heart is for receiving.  Energetically we can also say the back of the heart heals the past.  The front of the heart directs you toward the future and the physical heart is the present moment.
Really we can utilize any posture to open the heart by allowing it to be the focus.  Simply begin to focus on opening the heart 360 degrees… breathe into all four sides of the heart center.
One of the postures we worked with is Puppy Pose which in some traditions is called Anahatasana or melting heart pose.  Here’s a link:  https://yogainternational.com/article/view/puppy-power
Wishing you a month full of heart opening practice!
Namaste & much love,
Tammy
PS.  And speaking of Dogs, I just released my latest colouring book in the Chinese Zodiac series… go buy one!
